Sweden 🇸🇪

Stockholm

Tips

  • The SL travelcard worked excellently for public transportation. It’s valid for transit within the Greater Stockholm area, including select ferries.
  • Every subway station I visited in Stockholm had a unique theme, which made public transportation enjoyable to explore!

Attractions

Waterfront walks

No particular destination, but the highlight of Stockholm for me was adventuring throughout its waterfront. Highly recommend giving yourself time to explore bridges and pathways freely.

Vasa Museum

Incredibly well-preserved 17th-century warship. Fascinating backstory; one of the most powerfully-armed vessels in the world at its time, and it sank immediately on its maiden voyage. The museum features multi-tiered walkways to appreciate the historical detail.

Gamla stan

Sweden’s old town, charming alleyways to explore.

Gröna Lund

Stockholm’s amusement park. Not essential, but I needed to note this because there’s something so unique about riding a rollercoaster surrounded by gorgeous waterfront scenery rather than a parking lot.

Food

Nystekt Strömming

Cheapest (and still good-tasting) meal I found in all of Stockholm. The special was 100 SEK when I went: fried herring, mashed potatoes, pickled cucumber, red onion, and coleslaw.

Ångbåtsbryggan

Upscale restaurant on a boat. Beautiful at sunset. Excellent place for Swedish meatballs and lingonberry jam.

Various candy stores

I’d recommend popping into a supermarket and sampling Swedish candy! Very different from the varieties in North America.

Monster Chicken

If you’re craving Korean fried chicken, this chain was delicious.
