Denmark 🇩🇰

Copenhagen

Tips

  • If you’re travelling on a budget, I found buying groceries from the supermarket chain Netto and packing lunches to be surprisingly affordable.
  • I found the 80+ attractions and free public transportation included in the Copenhagen DISCOVER Card to be worth the price.

Attractions

Amalienborg Palace

Didn’t go inside, but the Changing of the Guard ceremony that happens at noon is cool.

Freetown Christiania

Abandoned military barracks turned hippie self-governing community. Great to walk around and vibe. If you’re a fan of fine dining, I’d recommend taking a peek at world-famous Noma nearby!

Det Kgl. Bibliotek, The Royal Library

Nice place to rest and read books!

Christiansborg Palace

This tower is the highest place in Copenhagen - great views of the city.

Designmuseum Danmark

I’d recommend this if you’re into sustainability, textiles, fashion, graphic design, or playful modern art!

Rosenborg Castle

Gorgeous marble castle. Danish crown jewels in lower level.

Tivoli Gardens

Beautiful amusement park! Not worth the normal admission, but if you have the Copenhagen Card I’d recommend checking it out.

SMK – Statens Museum for Kunst

Classical art and indoor sculpture garden.

Food

Juno the bakery

Cardamom buns are an iconic Danish baked good. Warm, soft, spiced - very cozy.

Isted Grill

Flæskesteg (roast crackling pork) sandwiches. Surprisingly good.

Day Trips

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Spectacular, well worth the day trip. Incredible permanent and temporary modern art exhibits indoors. The coastal sculpture garden is especially magnificent to see evolve as the sun changes position throughout the day.
